Really? Not like a hero in a fantasy series? beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 02/11/2009 02:32:34 AM
His uncertainty about his choices, his wrong decisions made in haste, his many many mistakes... They make him human. They make him real. He's not acting like a hero in a fantasy series. He's acting like a person.

Plus, we all know his reunion with Morgase is gonna be hilarious.

The moment he hears that the woman he loves/has put on a pedestal and was manipulated by for information is in trouble, he gallops away, abandoning the men in his command.

When he reaches the rebel camp, he refuses to listen when other people tell her that the little girl he's trying to protect is actually an incredibly powerful Aes Sedai who is busy manipulating the downfall of their enemy without bloodshed.

He loathes Rand because he heard a rumor he killed Morgase... despite being told that it's not true by his sister, and said "love" interest.

He takes part in an expedition to save Egwene from a heavily fortified castle, despite direct orders not to.

I'm not saying all of these are necessarily BAD (I don't blame them for trying to save Egwene during the Seancean attack, for example), but I'd say it makes Gawyn an incredibly stereotypical "fantasy novel" hero.
I amuse myself.
