2. People mention about Mat's section being off, but it doesn't affect me one way or the other. BS is, if I recall correctly, a fan of Mat. I wonder if that hurt him being able to write him. An unbiased attitude is needed to write any character.
I still liked the Mat sections, but I felt that his voice was the one that most stood out as being different.
True, it felt like a caricature. Mat likes to complain about women, therefore lets make a 3 page rant about them. Mat chose some crazy back stories for the escape from Ebou Dar, therefore lets redo that again. The stuff about being married felt true to me as did his wanting to look south.
3. Elayne wasn't in the book. But she was mentioned ALOT. Her name and/or titles were mentioned more then many characters that were in the book. Aviendha's hero worshiping of Elayne bothered me. But, for the most part, I was pleasantly surprised since I am a big fan of Elayne.
Avi's hero worshiping is something all of the girls do in regard to the others, just as Rand, Mat and Perrin all think that the other two know how to handle women.
True but BS went too overboard, unless this was an RJ section that wasn't edited as much as it should have been. BS could have removed a couple paragraphs of the material and the point would have come through stronger, IMHO.
6. What's up with the ghost precession that Nynaeve saw. I have a feeling there is an explanation for this.
Besides the fact that the dead are walking. I don't see why you would think that this particular manifestation should be special.
Because I got the impression that it happened regularly and only at midnight. It is completely different then other ghostly events.
7. The chance of Rand's new sword being Justice has went down since Min mentions that it was found underwater. Also Rand mentions that it is power wrought. My guess is that the sword belongs to one of the Heroes of the Horn besides Hawkwing.
Why? Couldn't Justice just have easily been thrown in the water as any other heroes' sword?
It was found submerged under a statue. Why would someone hide Hawkwing's sword so? It fits with something lost during the breaking, though.
On an unrelated note, didn't excaliber come from the lady of the lake?
8. If I was Mesaana and I wanted to fool the oath rod then I would simply wear some thick gloves and use an illusion to make people think they see me touching the rod.
I don't know that skin contact is necessary. Though as some others have pointed out she could have easily sworn and still claimed not to be a DF. Likely the Forsaken think themselves to be much more than that. Of course afterwards she could easily enter T'A'R and create an Oath Rod and unswear the Oaths.
Possibly. I don't think that a Forsaken would willingly bind themselves with a binder with all three oaths even for a little bit.
10. I would really like to find out how Verin detected so many of the BA. None of the other BA seemed to have been able to get near to duplicating that feat despite having a motivation to do so. Perhaps we can get a clue in WH when Verin talks with Cadsuane and becomes convinced that Cadsuane was trustworthy. I saw nothing. Perhaps some more eyes on it might find something.
I don't think that there's anything in the chapter specifically. However, I think that Verin likely used methods similar to the BA hunters, looking for those who were able to lie. Also, assuming that Verin has been a DF for 70 years(her last mistake), then she's had a long time to gather information. Unlike the few other BA we've seen. Plus, she tends to be dismissed by others as being a dreamy Brown, but she figured out that Moiraine had found the Dragon Reborn, which no one else in the Tower realized.
True, but I think there needs to be more then this. I believe that Verin is crafty enough to do it. I just want to know more information about how.
11. Speaking of Verin. I wonder how much of the shadow's knowledge of Rand has come from her. My guess is that she was forced to do some pretty awful things.
I doubt much, at least she should have been able to lie enough about Rand to keep the Shadow from learning anything of value.
Lying to the Forsaken is quite risky. They often have other sources of information.
13. The most irritating feature of tGS was the way it jumped around. There were at least a half a dozen times when I was looking forward to the current plot continuing and it jumps (for apparently no reason) to another section. The most irritating example of this for me was when Mat meets Verin. Then it jumps to a few other PoV before returning. WHY? It wasn't as if a day or two passed in the meantime. We are talking minutes.
I think that is just BS's style, at least Warbreaker certainly does this a lot as well.
It may be his style, but I find it to be quite distracting. It is a trick that amateurs use to hide flaws and to make the story appear more interesting then it is. BS has gone beyond being an amateur and needs to show that off by having extended scenes when it is appropriate.
14. What's up with Laras? Verin mentions that Laras is MANY things. My first thought long ago was that she was Mesaana. It seems very unlikely, though, since she is too much of a character for someone to take over without it being obvious. My best guess is that Laras is an agent for the Kin.
I like the idea that she's an agent for the Kin. It'd be very hard for Mesaana to keep up the disguise of someone so fat in a kitchen, given that someone would almost certainly have bumped into her at some point in the last year or two.
There may be other better ideas for Laras. I haven't thought of any though.
15. Either Sorilea or Bair is a DF. They are the only ones who saw how Cadsuane opened the box. I suppose that SH could have done it. On the other hand, Semirhage's guards were dealt with when SH was in the room with Semirhage (Moridin using TP perhaps, there were no residues.)
Bair can't channel, leaving only Sorilea able to have seen the channeling, but Cadsuane thinks that she had inverted the wards, so Sorilea shouldn't have been able to see anything. More likely SH can undo wards as easily as he can keep those around him from sensing the Source.
Doh! Your right. It is hard to know what SH abilities are. I doubt he would risk doing something like that in person, though. I don't think that Sorilea would have unravelled the wards but she might have seen what Cadsuane done and showed demonstrated the weaves to someone else. I have a hard time swallowing Sorilea as DF because of her offering water oath to Cadsuane.
On the other hand Cadsuane was lured away from semirhage because she met with the WOs during that time. It is possible that this is a coincidence or that SH waited until everyone was gone. Semirhage's PoV, though, suggests that this happened very soon after she was broken. While SH mentioned about Semirhage being broken as well.

Besides, Sorilea is fairly weak in the OP. Would she be able to undo the wards?

Surprising myself, I missed Elayne. And even more surprising, I actually liked Mat this time.
