Wait 'til Rand finds out he didn't kill Graendal with balefire. I am willing to bet that the fortress/palace in Natrin's Barrow housed Compulsion-free innocents with at least one darkfriend channeler with some skill in Compulsion. That's when Rand's emotions will burst into painful shards of guilt and self-loathing.
Graendal could have EASILY taught some of her signature Compulsion weaves to a lesser channeler to be used as bait.

Min had fear in her eyes because Rand lost control, he lost his humanity. It's not that Min was afraid because of the Semirhage incident, she said she realized that it wasn't HIM choking her. No, she was fearful for his soul, for what he became, not her own safety.
Rand's distanced himself, yes, but his companions have been working the whole book towards his health. When they see that Rand can actually feel again, they can make amends.
There's actually a really obvious parallel here with Rand and Buddha. Rand drove himself to a solitary place to think(meditate) and attained enlightenment, seeing all of his previous lives. I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet.

Graendal's demise is unproven. I say it was Moghedien Rand balefired in Natrin's Barrow. *NM*
