none of the characters ever consider that a forsaken could be accepted, novice, or servant Deadsy Send a noteboard - 30/10/2009 08:03:58 PM
Ok - so the final chapter lists three candidates for Mesaana:

Nelaia Merhan, a Brown
Teramina, a Green; and
Jamilila Norsish, a Red.

It goes on to state that they're all very weak in the power. Egwene has a premonition that none of them fit - and wonders whether Mesaana is still hiding in the tower.

This was a clear steer from RJ/BS - so i looked up what we know about them from the encyclopedia WOT and guess what? None of them seem to have been mentioned before. The encyclopedia WOT has always been pretty good, so i'm wondering whether i've missed something.

It leads me to a few thoughts:

1. If they haven't been mentioned before, then why give us this tidbit without any context?
2. Maybe they are known characters and there's something that might give us some ideas about who Mesaana is?

Egwene has some intuition that they can't be forsaken, but mainly because they're all weak in the power. But don't we know that it's possible to both hide use of Saidar, and to hide the extent of your strength? Egwene might be wrong...

Her final thought on whether the Forsaken might still be in the tower suggests that whomever she is, she can't be Aes Sedai. They were all tested on the oath rod. This brings Laras to mind. She's always helping out the wondergirls - she offered to let Egwene escape which would have only served to extend the conflict. And I got some weird feeling about her when Eqwene was in the chimney cleaning, like she was a little too quiet...

So - who is Mesaana? One of the three AS mentioned by Egwene who we know little about? Laras? Someone else?

Because they don't consider that she could be an Accepted or Novice, that makes me think it's likely. Were the accepted and novices all tested on the oath rod? I don't recall. I don't think it's any of those 3 Aes Sedai though. And I don't think Mesaana tricked the oath rod.

I've never been suspcious of Laras. Verin's comment about her being "many things" was interesting though.

What about Shemerin? She could have easily been overlooked during the whole oath rod thing... but, I can't think of why she'd accept the demotion and all that crap.

I believe RJ has stated that one CAN "reduce" their power level - 30/10/2009 08:02:36 PM 703 Views

So...Danelle? - 31/10/2009 12:07:10 AM 696 Views
Danelle is only a possibility if she tricked the oath rod, so she's unlikely - 31/10/2009 12:18:53 AM 730 Views
Which has very interesting implications - 31/10/2009 05:16:35 AM 685 Views
