I've read the first chapter only, so I can't say anything about the whole book, but I don't understand why we need this chapter:
Rand: missing hand, "steel", no harm to women etc. - nothing new
Min: endless concerning, coat etc. - nothing new
Cadsuane: "any queen at court" - almost nothing new: the prisoner doesn't speak
Nynaeve: almost tugging her braid -nothing new
Alivia: "she would help Rand" - Who ever heard of such a thing?
In short: 6,500 words for nothing, or rather the book was too slim, so BS had to bloat up to 300,000 words from 220,000. (Many readers mention further "needless" chapters (at least 10-12 chapters).
So, what do you think?

I think first chapters are meant to refamiliarize the reader with the story, not to be action fests. *NM*

A few chapters felt unneccessary, but it was mostly fine.
