...as Cannoli posts above, it turns out the Forsaken were primarily chosen based on their level of selfishness...which determined their level of ability to be controlled/manipulated.

They aren't great beings....they aren't super-humans....they are incredibly flawed people whom the DO picked because of how easily he could control them.

So, it wasn't because they were the cream of the crop, it wasn't because they possessed all the "power and skills". It was because they could be manipulated and controlled.

Are they strong channelers? Yep. But there's much more than just channeling that goes into a persons make-up.
I would slave, to pave the way, to sink your ship of fools.
