It doesn't matter how strong the balefire was when Rand used it against the palace. Even if it was strong enough to destroy the palace before it was built, the Pattern wasn't rewoven to put Graendal at a different hideout.

So if Graendal was in the palace when the balefire destroyed it, she's gone.

Personally, I think she's dead. The level of Compulsion she normally uses is so strong that she can't just unweave it and the victim is returned to normal. It's been noted several times that she literally destroys the minds of anyone she uses it on, to a greater or lesser degree. If Nynaeve can't find traces of the Compulsion that was used, Graendal is dead.

Yet it has be specifically noted that though this is often the case, Graendal is equally capable of using incredibly subtle forms of Compulsion. So subtle, in fact, that even the most skilled Delver could miss it.

I think that little tidbit was some rather obvious foreshadowing.

I can't see how Graendal would have predicted that Rand would balefire a whole palace - 29/10/2009 05:06:51 PM 595 Views
And why should Graendal not be privy to their plans? Semi was the pawn. *NM* - 29/10/2009 05:52:11 PM 252 Views

Nope. The plan had been building. He has obviously been giving thought to what to do to defeat her. *NM* - 29/10/2009 06:11:45 PM 250 Views

I think it was Moghedien that was balefired in Natrin's Barrow fortress/palace, not Graendal. - 30/10/2009 02:56:53 AM 570 Views
Interesting idea. Definitely possible. *NM* - 30/10/2009 03:06:04 AM 282 Views
