As has been pointed out: capturing someone who knows how to travel, alone and by itself was worth it.
Even if they accomplished nothing else, lost all their 'raken and their damane, but singularly managed to get someone whow knows the traveling weave, it would still be considered a great success.
And they knew it, and pretty much explicity stated as such IIRC.

Traveling is great, but since damanes are not suited to linking due to the a'dam, the gateway they can make will have to be small. Sure they can put three small gateways to the same location, but large items like wagons and such may be impossible to get across the gateways, which may limit the troops they can send quite a bit.
