For anyone who has seen my posts over on the SF/F board, I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I'm on top of the ebook news.
This comes over from Dragonmount, since I couldn't find this news anywhere else. Thanks to Jason for posting this yesterday:
While it might not be the biggest news for tomorrow, Tor is releasing THE EYE OF THE WORLD as a digital eBook for the first time. It will be available in many formats, including the Amazon Kindle format. Accompanying this eBook release will be brand new cover art.
The image above is taken from the scene in Eye of the World where Rand is sailing aboard Bayle Domon’s ship, the Spray. Here’s what Irene Gallo had to say about it:
It seemed a natural to start the series with a portrait of a young Rand beginning an epic journey, the scope of which he could perhaps sense but not truly grasp. David¹s luminescent paint lights Rand from within. In a way, it seems to be a portrait of Rand best seen at this time, when readers know so much about what lies ahead of him.
Tor plans to re-release each one of the Wheel of Time novels as ebooks according to the schedule below. Each will have new cover art, specially commissioned for the eBook format. Each will feature a different artist.
* The Eye of the World – 10/27/09
* The Great Hunt – 11/17/09
* The Dragon Reborn – 12/15/09
* The Shadow Rising – 01/ 19/10
* The Fires of Heaven – 02/16/10
* Lord of Chaos – 03/16/10
* A Crown of Swords – 04/20/10
* The Path of Daggers – 05/18/10
* Winter’s Heart – 06/22/10
* The Crossroads of Twilight – 07/20/10
* Knife of Dreams – 08/24/10
* New Spring – 09/28/10
* The Gathering Storm – 11/2/10
* From Two Rivers – 11/16/10

* The Hunt Begins – 11/16/10
* New Threads in the Pattern- 11/16/10

Amazon is selling the EotW ebook for $9.99, standard for popular new releases. I'm planning on picking it up, but I think I'll wait a couple of weeks to see if the price drops, since the paperback version is selling for $6.99. No point paying an extra $3 per book when Tor is going to keep the ebook versions available.
The link takes you to Dragonmount's news page, where pictures of the new cover is available, as well as a link to the Amazon page for the new ebook. The other new covers have yet to be released, as far as I can tell. I'm kind of meh on this new cover, I like the old version better.
...Please don't judge me for having visited Dragonmount. I was forced there against my will, I swear!
