Nice idea about the TP turning in on itself to defeat the DO. I like it! Segovia Send a noteboard - 27/10/2009 02:52:03 PM
Actually, the more I think of it, the less sure I feel that the DO would in fact have allowed Rand to channel the TP directly. As things stood, Semi planned on having him strangle Min, then kill the Aes Sedai who had been questioning her, then gateway to SG and either swear fealty to or die at the hands of the DO. Things couldn't have been better from the DO's position under the circumstances, beyond the risk that one of the AS might have killed Rand in the course of his rampage. By letting him break free from Semi using the TP, the DO jeopardized and ultimately lost the opportunity either to preempt the Last Battle or to fix its result in his favor then and there. In light of the circumstances at the time, then, I think Rand probably channeled the TP using Moridin as a conduit without the DO's consent. What do you say? Am I missing any evidence that might point to the DO consenting?

The TP is to be feared, period. The Forsaken themselves (aside from Moridin) think it insane to want to channel the TP...they know there is an ultimate cost...a cost that the DO collects on. The DO has now touched Rand's mind, his soul, his body. Who knows what he's left behind? Who knows if this has opened a permanent link between the two? We cannot even comprehend the power of the DO....he's well beyond human thinking...and he's touched Rand! After all, the TP could be described as the essence of the DO. But all of that only points to the danger Rand has placed himself in, and does not answer your question.

You make good points above regarding the circumstances, and it was the DO...via SH...who initiated the scenario. It's hard to believe that the DO could have anticipated Rand's reaction and reach for the TP....but who knows? Given the nature of the Rand/Moridin merge...or what we know of it anyways...I lean towards the idea that Moridin acted as the conduit, and Rand channeled the TP without needing direct consent from the DO. (Actually....perhaps this is part of the key to defeating the DO? As Rand turned the power back into the CK to destroy it...perhaps he will, in a way, turn the TP back on to the DO. Using Moridin as the conduit, the DO wouldn't be in control of the flow between he and Rand, and therefore couldn't cut it off....hmmm. Needs more thought.)

That said however, I can't imagine the DO being displeased, if you will, with Rand having channeled the TP.

What's amazing is that Rand failed to connect the True Power with the DO! LTT must have some knowledge of this (hell, he about "loses his mind" when Rand seizes the TP), Semi blurts it's out right in his face that he's channeling the TP....Rand should be making this connection near immediately. He even has thoughts about the original opening of the bore....about how they were seeking another power source....and still fails to make the direct link (at least fails to inform us of it). It may be he's realized this and we just won't find out until ToM, and so from now on he'll be very careful of not drawing the TP once again.
