I must have been unclear, I believe we are of the same mind when it comes to Rand.
Cadsuane. Who knows maybe her death will cause Rand and all of the Asha'man to burst out into laughter and tears of joy.
Joking aside, Rand didn't just lose his hand. His eyes are messed up and the wound in his side was still bleeding after Nynaeve healed him.
Also that is a bit of a false choice. Cadsuane and Nynaeve would still have their angreal and other ter'angreal if one of them had let Rand borrow their weave-breaker for this encounter. The main difference in the fight is that instead of Rand taking a dirt-nap, he could have been clubbing Semirhage over the head with the dragon scepter (assuming he wouldn't have managed to grab saidin).
I'd actually go so far to say that Cadsuane really should have flat out given Rand her weave-breaker. She expects to die any day now anyway, might as well spit in the dark one's soup before she goes. Cadsuane reminds me of the little old lady you see driving down the road occasionally. Not the one going 15 in a 40 zone, the one tearing down the street, passing people on the right, and running red lights because she has no fear of death.
I think you're being a little hard on Mat here - none of the characters at this point knew the medallion would hurt the gholam (including the gholam!). What Mat did know is that Moghedien has a personal reason to come after Nynaeve and the medallion is more effective against Moghedien than it is against pink ribbons
Sidious addressed these two issues. Think of it this way - which can Rand spare most: Cadsuane, Nynaeve or his left hand?

Yes, and that would have worked out so well if he gone through with it! He AND Elayne would have both been dead. Elayne would not have tried to fight the gholam hand to hand, and there would have been less chance of the medallion hitting it (especially without Mat's luck in play) and exposing its sole weakness, as it punched her or twisted her head off. And Mat would have been dead without it. Better to leave such things in the hands of their owners and worry about it later.

1. Maybe the ter'angreal only work for women. 2. Mat is a better person than any of them *NM*

I always assumed that the ter'angreal only worked with women, as well.
