I think you'll find that Admiral Akbar did actually say it was a trap. It just wasn't highly publicized.
I re-read that a couple weeks ago, and I was again bothered by Min's presence. It's very silly to let one of the women be someone who can't do anything on the scale of the AS. As to the viewings, if the meeting went well (aka: wasn't a trap), she could have possibly had time to see them later.
With Caddy and Nyn, I assumed the ter'angreal were for women. That could be a silly thought, given that Mat is male AND can't channel.
