The Dabels have one of the worst reputations in the industry because of this stuff. I think most people realized that Red Eagle wasn't entirely to blame for the New Spring fiasco. I wonder how the Dabels conned people into giving them more money.
In fairness, Red Eagle completely mishandled that incident as well. The 'whistleblower' linked from the Dragonomount post says that whilst the Dabels didn't handle that one very well, the original problem was Red Eagle not paying them the money they agreed, and it then taking two years for the two companies to sort out who had the rights to what.
Because of that, and Robert Jordan backing the Dabels against Red Eagle, a lot of WoT fans gave the Dabels the benefit of the doubt, and gave then a probably more chances than they should have done to come good on the situation.
