I have read the books, and I distincly remember him abondoning the "codes of war", whatever those might be.


Seriously, he might be a reluctant hero, loyal friend and all that, but he constantly thinks about turning situations to his advantage. That's more of the old Mat, but it's still there strongly. If you don't like the way we interpret him, then you can shove it; your Egwene series has gone on much longer.
