Plot Induced Stupidity. I really don't hold anything against B. Sanderson but it's obvious to me that there were many scenes that I felt R. Jordan would have written very differently. It is fairly easy to tell if something was in the general plot outline but not detailed and this is one of those minor elements that R. Jordan would have used to tie up a dangling loose end.
No, he wasn't. But I have been telling people for quite a few books to prepare for disappointment. It can be attributed to many things: his exhaustion at having accomplished his mission of bringing the Sharans under him, his exhaustion channeling so much of the Power, his arrogance undermining his strategic ability, etc. Maybe R. Jordan would have had him behave differently because he had a different understanding of combat than B. Sanderson?
