Way too many of them got nothing and in the end were completely, or almost completely, a waste of ink.

I think that R. J. would have given Bela at least a paragraph for her death scene or at least minor mentions from her former riders over the years about their mounts tiring or something to make us think of her.

And honestly, I do think he meant for all of the main characters to survive. Egwene's story arc actually ended on multiple odd notes, and I think at some point, Mr. Sanderson was just trying to avoid botching it!
