Picking out especially remarkable and heroic individuals, and then the individual's acceptance of that burden. Apparently Mat's soul has never chosen to accept. At least that's how I saw it.


I think that Mat is bound to the horn. He's a trickster and who doesn't love to play a joke on the trickster. In my opinion, Artur Hawkwing* lied to him as a joke.

*It was Artur Hawkwing right? I don't have the book with me and for some reason I can't recall who told Mat he wasn't one of them.
