I'm not sure its that Brandon doesn't understand the OP as that he decided to ignore its rules to let the story go the way he wanted it to. It makes no sense that Egwene didn't realize there wasn't a buffer in her sa'angreal, before she did in just the nick of time. But he did it anyway since he wanted us to be totally surprised by her death.

Similarly, he needed her to have the sa'angreal, and he needed Taim to face her, he needed the initial faceoff to be somewhat epic, so he had Taim able to defend against her immense weaves of fire, then even resist her shield! Because in a real confrontation of that nature, Taim would have been handed his ass in about two seconds. What Sanderson should have done is have Taim be shielded, and totally defeated. Then, before Egwene can kill him, he embraces the True Power, and cuts off her shield with Balefire and Travels away. Same effect with no violation of the OP. But definitely a little less "epic".

He also had to'raken come out of gateways in the air... and forgot that since Damane cannot link, their largest Gateways can't be all that big. Even if one of them has Androl level Talent, multiple such Gateways makes no sense.

We also got a ridiculous line during the first battle between the AS and the Trollocs, where Egwene says none of the AS are linked since links are great for focussed attacks, and this was more general combat. Ummm... what? Did her forget the Cleansing? And why shouldn't the most powerful sisters with the most powerful sa'angreal and angreal form a link and have Egwene release a gigantic, focussed, weave of Fire or Earth to simply destroy the entire Trolloc army?

His most egregious error was that he underpowered Egwene way too much. She was the only one consistently channeling immense amounts of Power, and while she may singlehandedly have killed more Trollocs and enemy channelers than anyone in the LB, entire armies should have been nothing but minor inconveniences to her. Sanderson could have gotten around this by having Dreadlords engage her constantly, thus distracting her from using her full power on the Trolloc hordes. But he chose the lazy way out.
