Nothing at all.
My issue with it in this context, is that it jars with the rest of the series, and is completely out of place.
Yep, it's at odds with the rest of the series and doesn't match Jordan's style and therefore seems OOC for everybody in the book. It breaks the continuity and the reader's suspension of disbelief.
The Mat chapters in the Sanderson volumes read like fan fiction of Mat instead of Jordan's character.
