For most of the series, the Wise Ones were really underused as a fighting force for no reason besides that it would've have made things too easy for Rand and the Light side.
I mean at the start of LoC Rand had thousands of them available yet he was all "I need the Asha'man otherwise I have no chance against the Tower.
I mean at the start of LoC Rand had thousands of them available yet he was all "I need the Asha'man otherwise I have no chance against the Tower.
Jordan kept them in reserve.
He established very well through the books why Rand acted as he did toward the WO. There were always reasons why they were not involved in this or that. The reasons were not always acceptable/accepted by many readers or felt contrived to some, but we always had reasons.
But this time there's no good explanation why they sat the Last Battle, why more fought at Dumai's Wells in LOC then have went to SG.
Not all the WO agreed to give up tradition and get involved in fighting by LOC, but you'd expect many more than an handful would have joined Amys and co., or that the issue would have been at least raised among those WO. Brandon simply forgot they existed, wrote them off.
Besides, given how overpowered channellers are compared to normal people, the normals would've been just cannon fodder if there were thousands of channellers on both sides.
You're really making excuses for Brandon.
The numbers were the numbers, he had to find ways to work with them, like Jordan always did. Writing off thousands without giving the readers even the shadow of an explanation why they were not involved was just poor plotting. He did the same thing with Roedran and the Murandians for example, never heard of again after Merrilor.
Without depriving Brandon of all he did well, and there's a lot, there were a lot of continuity mistakes in his rushed planning/outlining. He tended to contrive stuff a lot to get the scenes to play out as he wished (a good example in AMOL is giving Min a relationship with Mat when they barely ever met (a few hours at Falme at best). The scenes were full of mistakes, like Min talking of Mat wearing "his usual hat", which of course she had never seen. Those scenes would have worked well had they happened between Perrin and Min who developed a relationship over months spent together in the mountains, but not between Min and Mat). That sort of things Jordan avoided like the plague weakened Brandon's efforts.
