I don't fault Rand for any of it, at the moment.... lilltempest Send a noteboard - 10/01/2013 04:49:25 PM
But i am choosing to believe that Rand has to fake his death for the contract and his own life to be worth living and this must be as realistic and widespread a deception as possible to work- Mat and Perrin are both compromised. Arguably so are the 3 wenches though Rand can't do much there. All his loved ones have roles in fixing the land after TG and are leaders- Rand, as he realised towards the end of the series, is not a Peace Time leader, needs to "stay dead" an frankly deserves the break. Then after things have cooled down a bit I believe Rand will visit all his most loved ones, including the PowerTrio and Tam and Nynaeve for reasons stated above. But in all probability we'll never know, which is probably deliberate and something I am fine with. The book specifically states this is "an ending" and life will go on. We just won't get to watch. And just because Rand doesn't tell us these plans or thoughts doesn't mean he doesn't have them- people have messed up making that assumption before. Rand keeps his plans secret even from the reader throughout the entire series

I'm just saying it could've been written better and gotten him to the same place in a more satisfactory manner. He deserved a happy ending, more than anyone else in the series, so I'm glad he got a fresh start. I think it was a dick move on the three wenches' parts not to tell Nyn or Tam the truth. They can keep their mouths shut, and they are the ones who actually care the most. I just resent the fact that those three harridans (and yes, I include Min in that now, despite the fact that I used to like her much better than those other two, who I can hardly stomach anymore) know Rand is okay while Nyn and Tam do not (when Nyn and Tam care exponentially more about Rand and his happiness).

As for the accusation that Rand is somehow a jerk for walking away from those three wenches, I think that's crap. They have no use for him and there is no place for him in their lives other than to be passed around like a vibrator. He should've been freed from them completely, with the bond snapping on their end or dissolving when he switched bodies, so he could truly have a fresh start. Out of the three of them, Min is the most likely to believe him alive and try to find him. I doubt the other two care, and don't see them even allowing him to have a hand in his childrens' lives. That kind of fits how they are, especially Elayne.
