Not so much criticizing as establishing that she never ever grows up.

Classy.
Especially the part about her not knowing the details about the War of Power. And of course finding the opposite sex irritating is unique to Egwene, especially in this group
The attitude Egwene displays IS unique. I'm not remotely criticizing her for going "Men!" and sniffing or the usual cross-gender stuff. I am referring to her being determined to confirm that men are the evil ones, to how it is so important to her that 3000 years ago, women were equal to or stronger than men, in the Power or morally. A detail like that can have absolutely no bearing on the here and now, but it's just a sign of Egwene's pettiness. When does any other character beg to be told that it was only the other gender that did something wrong, or that their own gender was, in an irrelevant time and place, unfairly discriminated against. I wish someone else with nothing to do would write a series called Moiraine's evil or Siuan's evil so we could discuss adult conflicts or decisions. If I want to read a detailed review of a sixteen year old's world view I'll follow Justin Bieber on twitter.
Well, no one is trying to make him the CEO of Apple and Secretary General of the UN all rolled into one either.
You people keep trying to defend her by bringing up her age and the common immaturity of people of that age, in a completely different and irrelevant era and setting (the typical 17 year old five hundred years ago was not expected to behave like one today), but all of that stuff is just more confirmation that she has no business trying to wield power for real, why she should be content to remain a figurehead.
