But I always found it very interesting psychologically (this is just me thinking about it, not anything I really got from the book), in that people who didn't have to look the atrocity in the face (never had to in the AoL) might be more capable of doing whatever they wanted to satisfy their own egos. Are they more evil? Or just more willing to take that horrific step because they haven't had to see it? And it seems that once you're in, you're in. Why the hell not, at that point?
