In many cases, adjacent books could be merged with little significant loss.

There would be way too much left out.
Particularly in the third quarter of the series, where exposition slows to a snails crawl. The most significant events in TPoD are that the Bowl of Winds is used and Faile is kidnapped (in the Epilogue, if memory serves.) The former is anti-climactic and the latter brief (not to mention regrettable for all the wrong reasons.) The rest is largely concerned with Rand painstakingly putting the pieces in place to fight the Seanchan to a savage draw on the Illian-Altara border. That is by no means a two or three hour feature film; it could easily be folded into WH, which provides a far more suitable ending than anything in TPoD does. Much the same holds for CoT-KoD; the effort might even improve them if it balanced CoTs glacial pace of non-events with KoDs spasmodic pace of events revealed from narrative necessity rather than as part of a smooth coherent whole. With Perrins self-flagellation over Faile, less is more, and that is the bulk of the third quarter.
To a lesser extent, merging would even suit TEotW-TGH and TDR-TSR. Each is good, but feature films could and should delete much of the extended travel.
The tricky parts, IMHO, would be merging TFoH with LoC, and TGS with ToM, because each contain many pivotal plot elements and cinematic scenes.

Hollywood would just get it all wrong anyway. Are they going to do 12 movies? Otherwise,

There could be a good market in the US since the success of shows like Clone Wars and Justice League

A TV series is a lot more practical than a film series, since it is a soap opera in many ways.

At 1 season per book, how do you keep those Aes Sedai ageless for 14 years? *NM*

At this point, I HIGHLY doubt that a movie could be made about the books.
