It broke your one power originated oath road ties, but who said it also broke a true power binding, or say a cour'su'vra (forget my spelling but you know...Moghedians fate). We have no idea what the Shadow does at it's Black Ajah initiation meetings, but I am almost positve RJ didn't f-up, he rather let the readers imagination fill in the blanks. Its not his fault you can only imagine what the Light side does to itself. You must dream a little bigger in this case.
Verin was not mindtrapped, and even if she were that does not directly prevent a person from revealing information so long as the trap has not been crushed.
We have no indications at all, that swearing to the DO creates any Oath Rod like bindings. Infact Ingtar who was much the same as Verin in being an unwilling darkfriend was free to help the Dragon Reborn and oppose the shadow. We also saw that the Black Ajah captured and released from their oaths by the BA hunters were able to betray the DO quite happily afterwards.
So, if Verin had been released from the oaths made by the Oath Rod, she would have been free to reveal any information and oppose the shadow any way she wished. Sure, the shadow would have send lots of assassins after her, and it is possible that the DO might have some way of sensing her location or something like that.
But an oath to the DO would be no more forcibly binding on Verin than any other oath once the effects of the Oath Rod were removed.
What if Verin was not such a drama queen?
