In fact I think Lanfear made fun of him for it. Something about having one of the strongest SaAngreal and just running around chopping up trollocks with it.
Also, I believe that Rand has used Callandor to block Balefire (a little hazy on that one). If so then he could be facing off aginast Moridin, SH, or some other channeler at that moment. If he was linked with the 2 AS in the background, he probably wouldn't have control of the flows, so he would have to use Callandor as a sword for his defense.
