Another thing to note is that while Gollum had moments of near redemption, Fain has steadily gotten more consumed by his insanity and evil and has grown far beyond his original form. His powers have been hinted at a number of times and shown to a degree, but I think we have not seen the tip of that iceberg.
How his role will play out is anyone's guess, but I think it will be pretty significant ... Why else build him up so much throughout the series?

I guess for him to be a complete parallel to Gollum, the object of his obsession, i.e., the dagger, would have to be instrumental in the Dark One's defeat. I'm not sure I see that happening, but I seem to remember reading theories about it.
Of course, it still wouldn't be perfect, as the dagger hasn't been the focus of the entire series.
