Re: If that was the effect, maybe it was Dark Prophecy?

It seems rather lame that the Dragon Reborn would be deemed worthy of that title by knowing of the existence of and name of a clerk.
I agree. I have no idea if Brandon wrote that foretelling based off a note from Jordan to "insert a foretelling there that will serve as test of Rand's sanity/humanity" though I suspect it, but the foretelling itself sucked indeed.
It would have been more dramatic, and far more meaningful, if it had been something about Kingslaying for instance, something that only the "re-integrated" Rand/LTT after his epiphany could have answered without going nuts. A connection to the epiphany itself should have been obvious.
I didn't think of that, but you're right it's a lot in the wording and substance of the foretelling and how Rand was tested, rather than in the idea that a prophecy told the rulers to test Rand to see if he should go on fulfilling his role or be killed because he'd failed and had fallen into madness/darkness that the whole felt anticlimactic.
It also didn't help that this was like a book apart from the epiphany itself. The impact that scene would have had in the original order would have been greater. It would have put emphasis on what the world just narrowly escaped, being like a coda to the epiphany.
Well said. The whole section struck me as an artificial and akward insertion to resolve the Borderland plot line.
