It's probably the single biggest influence on the whole series, and THE reason why it's impossible to guess Rands eventual fate, because Jordan is as likely to flip an Arthurian trope as play it straight; you just never know. That's what made Egwenes dual Dream about Gawyn either killing or rescuing her so fraught with tension, because it was like Lancelot riding to Guineveres rescue, killing Gareth in the process, and earning the enmity of Gawaine that led to their duel to the death when they should've been helping Arthur deal with Mordred and save Camelot. Except, of course, this time Gawyn was on the other side--maybe. You just never know. Remember Alivias Foretelling of Rand in the boat with three women being carried off wounded? Same thing that happened to Arthur, and whether he died depends entirely on which version of the story you read. One of the most fun things to do with WoT is play "spot the Arthurian character and debate whether Jordan will play it straight, completely invert it or something between the two". Look at Moiraine in the Tower of Ghenjei: It's just Merlins imprisonment all over, except this time Merrilin leads the rescue instead of being the captive. It goes on and on and on like that; WoT has very few main characters who aren't named for Arthurian characters. The only question is whether they'll be true to form, but just about all of them are there. Can't remember seeing Gaheris or Agravaine yet though; if I were Morgase (or Tallanvor) I'd be worried....
