That's a good analogy, but in the office with the angry boss, all the employees can actually see the boss, hear his yelling, see that his office blinds are up, etc, and can tell what he wants from his behavior. Now lock the boss in a box, and put the employees in a meadow 100 miles away, and the boss can be mad all day long and the employees would never know. Somebody would have to tell them, or one of the brave ones would have to go visit him and then carry word back to the others.

However, I disagree that the trollocs don't need to be micromanaged anymore, based on the evidence that I gave in my previous post. Shaidar Haran gave Alviarin a mark specifically designed to prevent trollocs from eating her, which implies that the trollocs are just as unruly as ever. Every trolloc army we've seen throughout the series has had some sort of higher shadowspawn or DF running it; we've never seen an army of trollocs simply running themselves. Trollocs just aren't that smart or trustworthy, and I don't really see how extra evil in the Pattern would change that. Although, to be fair, we haven't seen a Shadow POV from a battle in a while. The DO's growing influence on the Pattern at large doesn't really seem to have affected the behavior of the shadowspawn. Mostly it only seems to have affected natural events, such as food going bad, taveren effects being lopsidedly negative, the odd ghost here and there, etc. It's possible his influence has made the trollocs more obedient, but I haven't seen any evidence in the books for it. What in the books leads you to believe that the DO's influence is having an effect on the trollocs?

Incidentally, to continue our threadjack 8), even if that is correct and the DO really doesn't need the Fades for any army-administration purposes anymore, they are still some pretty swanky fighters. Maybe some of the best non-channelling soldiers the Shadow has. Trollocs /look/ fierce, but they're basically the same skill level as human fighters. Rand managed to kill one with no training on Day 1 back in the 'Rivers. Aiel laugh at trollocs. But the Fades! At Fal Dara, one Fade killed 7 soldiers by itself. The Seanchan basically wet themselves after their first encounter with trollocs; I gleefully look forward to seeing them meet some Myrdraal. Even if the Fades are no longer needed for any administrative purposes, they are still some fearsome fighters and the Shadow will feel the pain in battle without them. Assuming the shadow truly is running low on Fades, of course.
