In regards to the letters... RugbyPlayingAshaman Send a noteboard - 28/04/2011 05:28:13 PM
Some of Egwenes' dealings with Gawyn in TOM made sense in context of how a monarch or ruler dealt with favored subjects in certain historical eras. Many of King Henry VIII's letters and correspondence to Ann Boleyn and later wives, for example, were composed by other people in his employ and not all of these even bore his signature. And monarchs often dispatched a courtier or messenger to order a return to court. So this is one of the few points that rang true with respect to how things have historically been done in monarchic systems.

The three main male protagonists are country bumpkins, so they weren't raised to be able to separate a private missive from matters of import. Elayne understood the difference, for example, between a letter from Morgase that was meant for her to be read as a note from a parent to a beloved child and a letter that was delivered from the Queen of Andor to the Daughter Heir - one is personal, the other is private. After all, Egwene didn't need to explain to Nynaeve what she meant by 'other measures' when they met in T'A'R - she told Nynaeve as a friend that she would like Nynaeve to come willingly, but if she didn't, the next measure would be an official summons which is more serious (this scene mirrored one that occurred earlier between Moiraine and Siuan, in some ways, during "The Great Hunt", but in reverse).

But this relationship is boring and I thought it was carried out in a matter-of-fact way that befitted a Queen Regnant and a Prince Consort, in this case, an Amyrlin and her Warder.

But Gawyn was not Egwene's subject - 28/04/2011 06:09:31 PM 920 Views
Which was why I thought it was appropriate, since he meant to act as Egwene's Warder. - 28/04/2011 06:19:53 PM 884 Views
The only issue is that Warders are not minions - they are honored junior partners. - 28/04/2011 07:39:18 PM 1039 Views
No, the junior partners are Accepted. Warders are essentially personal bodyguards and/or assistants. - 28/04/2011 08:00:17 PM 837 Views

Accepted are not anything, let alone junior partners. Don't think N&E's experience was typical - 28/04/2011 09:32:22 PM 1059 Views
Here's the thing though... - 28/04/2011 11:20:32 PM 889 Views
