I still can't see Be'lal coming back ... what does that do for the story?

You can certainly interpret the quote to mean the DO only thought Asmo a traitor, but that doesn't match what the FS seem to believe of the DO ... Demandred was certainly convinced that the DO knew ,ore than he let on. At the very least I assume Graendal likely reported Asmos death immediately in order to curry favor. She would not have waited to announce to the boss that she eliminated the traitor.
If the DO had to rely on Graendal to inform him of Asmos fate, just as Lanfear broke the news about his treachery, that's a very simple explanation for why he didn't have the opportunity to resurrect Asmo: He didn't discover the need until it was too late. That issue didn't exist when Be'lal was killed.
There is nothing to say that the DO cared enough to bring him back ... or that Moiraine's Balefire was weak enough to be circumvented.

I appreciate you acknowledging the admittedly remote possibility of Be'lals return.

#1 reason (other that BF)I don't buy the Taim =Be'lal theory is Taim's disdain for the sword

That assumes Be'lal isn't smart enough to use a misdirection ploy.

I'm 99% certain RJ is quoted as saying Taim is not a new Forsaken .. I'll have to look for the quote

While I agree that Taim is most likely Taim, I don't see Demandred as the mastermind here

Demandred told us this was 1 day after the events in Caemlyn.

Graendal's the most likely source of the DOs knowledge about Asmo, but thereby hangs the tale.
