it just seems hard to imagine that they didnt catch this when reading it through. of course, i am clueless with respect to the editing process, but just leisurely reading through i caught a ton of typos. sometimes one every few pages, which is really 8bad for a #1 new york times bestseller.
I'd say go see th list on TL mentionned above. You'll probably see you've missed more than you caught (in part it's because we rarely read words in full as we read)
It's a bit the same while editing. They must have caught many casually during the creative editing, but the focus is on the scenes/dialogue/characters, not on spelling. They rather obviously botched/rushed the later (painstaking) more technical/quality control part of the process, where they'd eliminate remaining typos, spelling mistakes and so on. There are tons of dubious language remaining in there, like characters smelling flavours and what not. That's normally taken care of in edting, when the process isn't botched...
That's largely Tor's responsability as publisher - their QC standards have tended to be a bit low in the last few years, especially for a major publisher that has the means to do much better.
