Jordan reported that the first symptom to cause him to fear that there was something seriously wrong (he momentarily lost his eyesight on his way across a parking lot) occurred in April of 2005. At that time, he had already completed KoD, which had entered the editorial fase at Tor. That means, of course, that Jordan's decision to accellerate the pace in KoD was made at a time where he did not suspect that he was seriously ill. Jordan was diagnosed with amyloidosis in December 2005, and started treatment at the end of March 2006.
