For all the reasons the others have said - "Let the lord of chaos rule" and etc. He was concerned for Rand's stability because pre-Dragonmount revelation Rand could still have been turned to the Shadow, and a stable pawn is more useful than a crazy one. Taim could also share Elza's view that the Dragon has to survive to the LB in order for the DO to kill him there.
But, despite being a DF, he's not necessarily protected from the taint the way the Forsaken are. It's possible that Taim really has already gone insane, but in a more quiet and insidious way than some of the dramatically crazy Ashaman we've seen so far.
