I am not sure that RJ had that much of the series planned out after the first few chapters of book 1. It was originally supposed to be a 3 book series. He must have had the main events planned out like Tarmon Gaiden.

I would say you are obviously wrong, here. The hanging motif is one of Mat's most most defining characteristics, and RJ would definitely had this pre-planned as he was writing TEotW.
Also, this was never supposed to be a three book series, so please stop spreading that around the internet. In actual fact, RJ initially sold six TWoT books to Tor. The first book in that series was supposed to begin with the escape from Emond's Field and end with Rand taking Callandor at the Stone of Tear.
