Total shock, I tell you.
I find your outrage amusing. Jordan was not Nabokov or even Gene Wolfe, and an awful lot of people though his last books were terrible or mediocre at best, and even most the biggest fans of the series admitted they had a lot of flaws.
So what's so strange that many readers prefer the work of the new author to Jordan's last efforts? You disagree for whatever reason, fine, but I don't get why you should be so shocked.

I've openly said I enjoy Brandon more than RJ.
RJ made a real mess of the last third of the series and it was nice to get some refreshing new blood to recharge this stagnating series. I've really enjoyed the last two books, whereas I consider CoT to be one of the worst books I've ever read.
Serious Jordan fans always complain about how ridiculous Brandon has been with his handling of the series, and then in the same breath admit that Jordan wasn't exactly Nobel prize material. So whats the problem? WoT is clearly not for serious literary fans, but rather people who enjoy a good story, which I think ToM and TGS clearly delivered. Making WoT into one of the great classics of fantasy and then feeling scandalized when another author touches this 'pure work' is the first mistake. Read it for what it is, and enjoy the story. There was enough excitement in ToM to rouse a corpse.

It's incredible that some readers actually seem to prefer Sanderson's attempts at being an author

It isn't life though. It's entertainment, and there's so much fun potential for that connection

He's obviously responsible, but it's not a very serious offense.

I don't think Sanderson is a good writer. I just don't think Jordan was a good writer, either. *NM*
