I like a well rounded approach. Spirit for Traveling, Compulsion, and some more insidious things I'd put to the test. Air for self defense, Fire for obvious reasons, and other nifty tricks. Water because being able to Heal, or mess with the weather, or tides, might come in handy, and although Earth isn't left weak, it's still mediocre, and is useful.
I imagine a channeler at 0 would be ineffective with that weave, or would require a great deal of strength to do anything with that affinity. 1-3 I'd say is weak in that ability, where as 4-6 is average, and 7-9 is strong, and 10 is exceptionally gifted.
