Another big one in that same area that I haven't seen discussed. RabidWombat Send a noteboard - 06/01/2011 04:43:29 PM
Two months after publication and I have yet to see any of you "theorize" over this passage:

"It's always been a city of importance, you know," Rand said from beside Min, his eyes distant. "The Guardians are newer, but the city was here long ago. Aren Deshar, Aren Mador, Far Madding. Always a thorn in our side, Aren Deshar was. The enclave of the Incastar - those afraid of progress, afraid of wonder. Turns out they had a right to be afraid. How I wish I had listened to Gilgame..." (p. 748)

Where are the speculations as to what role the Dragon plays in the Epic of Gilgamesh? C'mon, people! Speculate! It's what you do best around here, right? :P

Interesting. I didn't notice the connection to Gilgamesh. That is a nice catch. (I suppose if Star Trek can reference the Epic of Gilgamesh than so can WoT.)

What interests me most about this passage is that it seems that Aren Deshar may have been in the AoL from the quotes about afraid of progress and wonder... Yet, we are led to believe that the breaking was so complete that not even the Forsaken knew where anything was today that existed in the AoL.

Another thing that is in the same area that I didn't see discussed is Rand's comments about the 'lives' he had in this age and that he lived for almost 50 years in this age. (Almost 550 total minus exactly 500 for LTT.) This indicates that Rand had one life in between LTT and Rand of roughly 26-28 years or so. The best hypothesis that I can come up with (when Hawkwing's comment of fighting against Rand was that Rand's soul was Alamasan.)
