I think that everyone is forgetting about the past and letting their preferences regarding Rand and Egwene interfere in their view of things.
Much has been made of how LTT and LPD opposed each other and how that ended up saving the world. But this time it is different. As Egwene says, there's a reason she's the leader of female channelers and Rand is the DR, and they grew up together and understand each other. They both hold vital pieces of the solution, and they're both too strong willed to be able to force the other to their way. I think that is how Merillor will play out.
