At least, that's what Sanderson is saying on Facebook.
Well, I definitely count seven characters on the front cover, and that ought to be the seven we know of (of course, this being Sweetm it's hard to be sure who's who beside Egwene, Moiraine and Lan. This might be an example of Sanderson's humour, to make people look for a non-existent 8th person on the cover?
The story of an additional youth from RJ is genuine enough, but that's very likely just another one of his stories from the early outlines or early drafts, like when he thought to make the hero a veteran like himself around his own age, plain and simple, instead of a youth he would transform into a veteran before the LB (there's a very illuminating blog post by Jordan during his disease, that between the lines tells a great deal about the origins of the Rand storyline).
But he never got to write this version with the older hero, it belongs to early development stages of the series. In the early stages, the character of the young Wisdom was also Rand's love interest, before they became Nynaeve and Egwene. The Daniell story probably belongs to the early years as well, from early drafts of the books maybe, at least long before Sweet was commissioned to do any cover art (it would have been simple enough to revise the painting anyway).
What's the deal with the "extra person" in the artwork for Eye of the World?

Apparently that's who Brandon Sanderson was talking about. DomA has good points, though.

"Only red shirts die" - tell me about it. Wheel of Time is worse than Harry Potter.

Maybe I'm a sap, but I prefer "only red shirts die" to George R.R. Martin's "only red shirts live." *NM*

I still half expect Egwene to die.

This is being judged on an absurd standard.

It's a shame - no real loss considering all of the "red shirts" the series eventually accumulated.
