not true, an AS can srike first with non combat type weaves darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 02/01/2011 07:22:23 PM
Egwene having gone to damane school would be immensely useful in such a battle. Aviendha has just picked up what the Wise Ones know, which isn't much considering they had no idea how to fight with the OP prior to Dumai's Wells, and some things from Egwene.

Except Egwene can't use the power as a weapon. unless in defence, so if avi is only shielding her or using non-lethal means to win, egwene cannot use the demane weaves, which aren't that great so far...

And Egwene can use plenty of weaves that are non-lethal, and she has loads more experience with the OP at this time... Having learned from 3 Channeling groups and Moghedien ... Look at how Elayne reacted to Egwene's complex Warding in ToM... She is clearly awed by the skill Egwene displays. Aviendha is less skilled than Elayne and likely has not developed as much of her strength as Elayne, who has been Channeling for a year longer.

There is no question in my mind that at this point in time Egwene would beat either Avi or Elayne.

I'll go with Aviendha and pretty much any channeler over an Aes Sedai simply because any non-bound channeler is going to get the first blow in. The one who gets the first blow in (and we're talking about channeling here...not fist) is going to win or is where I would be placing my money if I was a gambler . An example of what I'm talking about is Mogheiden trying to balefire Nynaeve in ACOS. Aes Sedai can't do this, but any and all other channelers could if they so chose. In other words, they have the option of initiative if they so choose. And initiative is everything in a fight, a battle or what have you.

All Aviendha has to do is be holding the Power, which isn't going to cause Egwene or any other channeler any alarm as long as it's done properly, then just simply make a deadly weave and deliver the knock out punch before the fights even started. Reverse the situation and Egwene nor any other Aes Sedai can do this. Aes Sedai are shit up a creak when it comes to initiative in battle heh. As Mat says, I would rather have an un-bound channeler over a bound one in battle anyday. All Aes Sedai are compared to other channelers at this point are a liability in battle. You know the whole, "I must feel in danger first" stuff.

On a sidenote, isn't it nice that the Aes Sedai's oaths are to use the Power in defense of themselves, their warder and a fellow sister...but nothing that has to do with anyone else? So if Joe Smoe over there is being murdered an Aes Sedai will say in respone to questioning why they didn't help, "Well my Oaths do not allow me to use the Power to defend a peasant you fool!" I find it really funny in a sad way that they claim to be servants when their oaths are so against it.

*I understand they can tie the attacker up in air to defend Joe Smoe if they choose to, but hopefully you get the point I was making.

Nothing to prevent an AS from wrapping a woman in air or tripping her or some kind of minor distraction ... as for this concept of "first strike wins", I disagree. The more skilled a Channeler is the more easily they would be able slice flows. Sure a sneak attack is likely to do what you suggest, but a duel is different.

We know even a significantly weaker Channeler can slice flows (as evidenced from Cyndane slicing Alivia's weaves) so even if Aviendha was the first to attack, Egwene's superior skill would dominate, couple that with Egwene's currently higher strength and the outcome seems obvious. Perhaps when skill and strength are equal Aviendha wins, but not today.

Egwene is currently stronger than Aviendha so a Shield likely isn't an option - 31/12/2010 07:12:00 PM 804 Views
