Time-window doesn't fit guttering flame Send a noteboard - 23/12/2010 12:11:06 AM
We know that everyone was told not to go through the columns a second time, we don't know if anyone ever did and what happened to them I don't think. Could people have done this before and seen the future or was this an only Avendhdie thing? I suspect that it could have been done before but anyone who discovered it didn't want to admit they went through the columns twice...or the future was so terrible (maybe they saw what Ave did) that they couldn't handle it? Thoughts?

The Wise Ones tell us that going through the columns take a certain amount of time (between 4 days and 10 from what I remember). If you don't emerge by the deadline you didn't survive. Now Rand's time in the columns was above the average I think (7 days?) and he only went through them once. That makes it unlikely someone could squeeze 2 passings during this timeline.

Also, note that Aviendah's second vision starts before she begins her second walk among the columns. It's a response to her communion with the terangrael. And we're given a big clue why this happened: Aviendah tells us that this terangrael contains (or connects to?) a vast intelligence, perhaps the spirit of the Aiel race.

The second vision didn't happen by mere happenstance. It was a response by the intelligence in the columns to Aviendah's needs.
