It's more than just fear of Moridin that makes her choose an attack from such a distance darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 10/12/2010 11:10:57 PM
the whole semiharge is weaker than nyneave pisses me off - brandon although has done a good job - makes some seriously nonsense quotes - Nyneave has met semi - and did you notice any of the aes sedai comment on how Nyneave was stronger? Semiharge was willing to take on RAND with Cudusane, nyneave and other AES SEDAI PRESNT!!! I think the Aes sedai would have felt less scared if they knew they had one (nyneave) with them who was stronger!!

Also not Granedal is impressed when she meets cyndane - because it was rare to meet anyone stronger than her even in her age (uncommon amongst men and very rare amongst women) - Now you have Granedal below Semiharge - and Nyneave above Semiharge ie:#

Nyneave
Semiharge
granedal

So basically the coward of the group Moghedian and accepted by the mass to be one of the weaker female forsaken- risked many encounters with one who - by Granedals account a very rare channeler - since women abover her strength were very very rare - and even uncommon amongst men!! Nyneave would have scared Moggy shitless - and considering NO ONE argues with the fact that Granny is much stronger than Moggy - certainly Moggy would have been, very, very, very, very intimidated when she sensed nyneaves strength - but go and read an you see Moggy is impressed but not intimdated - in fact she says something like Nyneave is strong enough not to waste - and would love to offer her to rahvin.

a Stronger woman. She whines about Alivia, and complains that Talaan could one day be stronger. Not a peep out of her about Semirhage is a clear indication that she is the stronger of the two.

As to Moghedien, Graendal immediately assumed Moghedien was controlling Cyndane, despite the obvious strength advantage going to Cyndane. And Graendal knows more about Moghedien than we do!

Fact is Moghedien knows that Nynaeve is vastly less skilled when she went after them the first few times and even though Nynaeve may have greater strength she could be controlled at this point.

Moghedien's last encounter with Nynaeve points out that she's learned better and doesn't want to face a superior force ... she attempted to Balefire her from a distance rather than face her directly again.

Wrong!!! She balefired from a distance - because she was scared Moridin would find out she was acting on her own - rather than stick to his orders - you will read in that segment - she is panicked and hopes moridin doesnt realise.

Nyneave doesn't speak abt Semiharge - because its a given that most forsaken are stronger - its not likely to be a surprise if semi was stronger - but would be a huge surprise if nyneave was!!!

She could have done something much less obvious from a much closer distance but also wanted to avoid any chance of being caught by Nynaeve... say sneaking up and slitting Nynaeve's throat with an inverted weave of air that Moridin would never have noticed. Instead she chose a risky attack that could have drawn his attention.

As to Semirhage, RJ stated early on that Nynaeve was in the middle of the Forsaken. Lanfear and probably Graendal stronger, Semirhage, Mesaana and Moghedien weaker maps to that ... especially if Semirhage is very close to the same level.

Nynaeve has never failed to complain when presented with stronger channelers. She bitched when she learned men were in general stronger, she complained over and over about Alivia being stronger and was very upset when she thought Talaan was only a child and could potentially grow stronger than Nynaeve.

This also maps to RJs original plan to make Nynaeve the most powerful female channeler early on ... he obviously changed his mind on that later, but in the original notes it seems Nynaeve was stronger than the Forsaken too.
