Egwene never says she has no chance against Moghedien. She says Mogs could kill her before she or anyone in camp even knew what was happening ... Egwene also says she can face and defeat Mesaana.

She says "this battle will by fought by sisters." Egwene's plan was never to face Mesaana in a one-on-one OP duel. Egwene had at that point never met Mesaana and had no idea what her OP strength was.

Note that now Graendal is strong enough to shield a FS level male channeler, another woman and hold open a gateway simultaneously... this is a clear indication that RJ at some point backed off his earlier assertion that men were much stronger, as back in LOC Rhavin assumed he could overwhelm Graendal or Lanfear, which is clearly not the case. Moiraine is certain Egwene and Aviendha (who were not yet at full potential) could overwhelm one of the female forsaken ... Nynaeve could not shield Elayne at one point, but later can shield Talaan who is even stronger ...


Shielding is not a good barometer of strength. Cross-gender shielding is different from same-sex shielding; shielding someone who's already holding the Power is difficult even if you're stronger; anyone can be shielded if taken by surprise; a weaker channeler can hold a shield on a stronger one; some people are naturally Talented at shielding (Berowin from the Kin who is very weak says she can shield a Forsaken); two linked channelers can channel with more precision than a single one... and so on.

RJ also pointed out that Forsaken are not reliable judges of their own (and others' strength) as they don't like admitting that someone else is stronger or more skilled.
