I LIKE his WoT books, but it'll always suffer from not having been his baby to begin with. I enjoy reading them, but they're not as much "his style."
I'd suggest reading his Mistborn trilogy- I really enjoyed it. Warbreaker was a fun standalone novel, as well.
If you want to see Sanderson-style epic fantasy, his book The Way of Kings recently came out. I liked it a lot.

I am halfway through WoA, so far the series is pretty good, his magic systems are much simpler than WoT, however they are also pretty kool :p
I was just making that observation about WoT being alien to BS. You can just tell its not the same. Like having a substitute teacher or going to a new doctor...
