I don't know how things are when you read, but I tend to become a part of the people I'm reading about. If it's a good story, anyway. The thought of all these people I've gotten to know and like becoming slaves to that kind of life... I don't know, it just makes me twitch. Falling into the story and feeling like I know these people... that's a big part of what makes reading great for me.
