I think that is true of the testing not the Oaths

killing off AS at half their life span ... can you imagine what the world would be like if women like Romanda lived for 600 years? Not to mention how much more mischief the BA could have gotten up to if they lived twice as long!
That aside, Nynaeve wasn't made to do anything. She was given the option of putting aside the AS title or taking the Oaths ... she made a choice. She even said that she would make other choices such as being with Lan or helping sick/dying children in Lieu of her AS title, but she chose to take the Oaths as part of the "responsibility" of being AS.

And they had no right to impose that choice on her. She was raised, and either they needed to publically renounce the authority by which she was raised and retract it or else they are no better than Elaida.
As others have said the Testing is the issue here, taking the Oaths is something all AS are required to do. The Testing Nynaeve actually practically volunteered to do in order to help Egwene.
Domani Drag Queen in the White Tower ... Aran'gar watch out!
Nynaeve should not have been made to swear the Oaths

*shrugs* ... the oaths are lame and so full of holes the only value they bring is

I wonder what would have happened if she refused and left the tower entirely.

no there wasn't a real reason for her to refuse. It'd still be interesting if she did *NM*

She has never really had her own unique plot line

That would have been good - I think she was probably the only woman with such an opportunity

Personally, I think it would have been a brillaint twist if Nyneave didn't become Aes Sedai *NM*

she shouldn't have, although I think they should trash the oaths in general

Especially since Egwene herself didn't really think it necessary for herself to take the tests

The only problem with that scenario was that Nynaeve had stuff to do, and could not as Accepted

I agree about the test, kind of. The Oaths was going too far.

It's supposed to be a required part of being Aes Sedai.

On the contrary, being Aes Sedai means she had to swear the Oaths.

They believe Oaths necessary, thus an Aes Sedai refusing sets herself apart from and above the rest.
