I really have problems understanding why, if you feel like this you even bother reading the series and come here? You complain on what makes, at least for me, why WoT is so good.
I mean, The Wheel of Time, even as a fantasy story, is far more grounded in reality than others. People have flaws, people make mistakes and they pay for it.
RJ has made a fantastic job of creating a world, where different nations and people are different and react differently. I love the way how some of those people are unperfect and are petty or selfish. They are human after all.
As for the Forsaken. I also at first was a little disapointed at how they were elevated to semi-Gods, and are now merely shadows of the vilains they could be. But as the story is slowly coming to an end, you must realise that the End will be fought on a different plane than just OP strengh or battles. Even if battles will play a major role in the sense they will be the focus for humanity's survival, its Rand and the DO, who are really important. Maybe Moridin and Shaidar Haran in an lesser role.
Ran'ds epiphany is the turning point, THE event that will make it possible for the light to win. Before that, it was doom for them.
I too wondered what exactly happenned on Dragonmount, but with Perrin's POV in ToM, when we saw the transformation from his eyes in TaR its clear now that Rand finally understands his role, how Love and faith is the key for his stability, he also unlocked the barrier that prevented him to be the Dragon, in its fullest and mightest.
I am happy that the last Battle won't be only Rand and OP weaves. It didn't work in the AoL, why would it work now? It stands to reason that THE battle, will be fought on a spiritual level AND OP. Hence Rand's new abilities and thinking.
Uh excuse me, I thought he was the Dragon REBORN, not the Dragon's much stronger, much more kickass older brother the Dragon GOD.
It makes no logical sense why this version of the Dragon has abilities heretofore unknown by the former Dragon. And LTT WAS known as the Dragon.
It's quite simple. This series could have gone on forever if not for some cataclysmic event to make Rand UBER RAND.
As for why I said these characters are pointless, the question was asked and I answered it. The Forsaken were a gimmick, and its very dissapointing to me that they couldnt kill ONE major lightside character, it's not believable and it shatters the 'suspension of disbelief' when you read the series.
The Shadowspawn are a joke after the first couple of books, no major lightside character ever has a problem defeating them with ease.
The Redarms and Perrins army just are not very important to the storyline.
Faile's story ate up 3 books worth and Im one of many who dislikes readin so much about her.
The Aiel have become sophomoric.
Elayne has become overly whiny, we dont need to know every detail of her soup.
And Rand, well Ive already stated what I think about believing his post Epiphany attitude.
1. All the Forsaken (They are MUCH bigger bumblers than the 'supposed Black Ajah Aes Sedai who follow them)
2. Every Shadowspawn and Darkfriend, excepting some Black Ajah
4. All the Seafolk
5. The Redarms, Noal, Thom (after book 2-3), Olver
6. The entire ragtag 'army' that follows Perrin
7. Faile
8. All the Aiel except maybe Sorilea
9. Elayne (she was ok until the last few books where she does nothing but whine and talk about how she can't be killed till her 'babes' (vomit) are born)
10. Rand post epiphany (which made absolutely NO SENSE how he suddenly 'cured' himself)
