Could this be Lan? Folks say he courted death like another man courts a lover. But how Tarwin's Gap = Midnight Towers is unclear. On the other hand, he *is* the Lord of the Seven Towers, all seven of which having been consumed by the Blight.
His death would do a number on Nynaeve, who is currently Rand's gal Friday. If she suddenly sank into major depression, that would be very bad. Not to mention how Lan's death would bring despair to the Borderlanders in general.
I did consider this, however I don't know how Lan would fill the broken wolf part exactly.
There is also the question of if his death would really have that much of a negative impact. I mean yes, Nynaeve would be devastated, but RJ himself has said that she would grieve and then move on. Rand too would grieve for his failure, but again I would expect him to be able to accept that such things happen in war against the DO. Surely he must have seen such things happen hundreds of times in the War of Power as LTT.
As for the rest of the world, Lan's death could bring despair, but I could also see it being a symbol of hope. Of men standing up for shadow and never surrendering, no matter the odds. Of fighting the Dark One to the last breath. The borderlanders especially could find this to be a very honorable thing to do, as would the Aiel.
Lan could actually end up being a symbol of someone who never gave up to the DO and never surrendered an inch, and as such encourage others to do the same and stand up to the Dark Ones evil with all their hearts.
